Summer Outing to Standen House 2019

Nine Circle members had an enjoyable time on their visit to Standen House and Garden, East Grinstead, on Friday 19 July. The house and gardens were created in the 1890s for James and Margaret Beale in a idyllic situation with views across the High Weald. Designed by Philip Webb, the house is one of the finest examples of the Arts & Crafts movement, with Morris & Co. interiors and decorative art of the period restored to its 1920s glory. Despite the rain, which restricted our use of the garden, we all agreed that it was a very worthwhile visit, with so much to see in the house, the furniture and furnishings all beautifully displayed. We made good use of the Barn Cafe too - a little gem in its own right.
