Schools’ exchanges: The schools' exchanges between the Judd School and the Adolf Reichwein Gymnasium, which would have taken place during May and June of this year, have regrettably had to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

The link between the Slade School and the Matthias-Claudius-Schule in Rembrücken continues to develop.

The Haysden Volunteer Group has turned the Heusenstamm Friendship Wood into a bluebell wood by planting 1000s of native bluebell bulbs. The Circle has contributed to this project by providing funding for 2000 bulbs, in the hope that it will encourage more people to visit. Come April, it should be a blaze of colour!

The flower border around the Heusenstamm Relic near Tonbridge Castle is creating a lot of interest from passersby. The Relic, a stone from the old castle in Heusenstamm, was presented to Tonbridge in 1994 on the 10th anniversary of the twinning link. After an initial consultation between Alison Marsden, of Gardening by Design, Debi Simpson of Tonbridge Community Gardeners (TCG) and Eileen Best and Suzannah Niklas of HFC, the garden was laid out and planted by members of TCG, together with pupils of Sevenoaks School’s Voluntary Service Unit and members of HFC. We recently received a donation from the Tonbridge Lions for its upkeep, which has enabled us to hire a professional gardener, who took over the care of the garden from our original volunteers in the autumn of 2017. Dates for your diary:

4 - 8 June: the joint holiday in the Isle of Wight is another victim of the Coronavirus measures. The decision has been made to postpone the holiday to early June 2021. If anyone not already booked would like to join, please contact the organisers (details in your Nachrichten). Normally, these joint holidays take place every three years. All participants have been notified of the cancellation for 2020.

Wed 15 July - Summer outing to Eltham Palace. Cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions.

Sat 1 Aug - English Picnic, Heusenstamm. Cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions.

Sun 13 Sep - Tonbridge Farmers' Market. The monthly Tonbridge Farmers’ Markets restarted in June, with fewer stalls and consequently fewer visitors. In view of this, it has been decided to cancel our stall at the September market this year, as too few passersby will wish to stop for a chat.

Sat 28 Nov - Nikolausabend.  Cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions.

5 and 6 Dec - Heusenstamm Nikolausmarkt. Our twin, the Heusenstamm Freundschaftkreis, has reluctantly decided not to take part in this year's Nikolausmarkt, due to concerns over the safety of members and the public. In fact, although this has not been confirmed, there has to be a question mark over whether the market, held annually in the picturesque narrow streets of Heusenstamm Old Town, will take place at all. Neither British goods nor official visitors will be going to Heusenstamm this year.
